Running

Weekending + Seek and Find

I was going to take Saturday off because I wanted to sleep until Knox’s birthday festivities began. I knew that our day was going to be go, go, go, and I wanted as much sleep as possible after running 20 miles in the mountains the day before and then staying up late on Friday night. My body decided that was not a fun idea, and I was wide awake at 4 am. After trying everything to go back to sleep, I got out for 7 miles at an 8:35 pace. By the end of the run, I was so happy my body refused to sleep, and to get in some miles instead.

And then I tried out a 30-minute Strength for Runners class on the Peloton app… This class was mostly a bodyweight class, but burned nicely. Before my best marathon years ago, I focused on the Strength for Runners classes on the Peloton app religiously… which has made me want to focus on them again.

Beck had his last soccer game of the season.

Skye had her last day of hockey before the next round starts up again.

Knox’s football team won on his birthday, Brooke’s team remained undefeated, and Knox requested Chick-fil-A afterward.

His/our friends stopped by and brought me this beauty. She bought it at the Farmer’s Market, and it was one of the best things I have ever eaten. A Dubai Strawberry Chocolate bowl. It was so so good.

Knox has always wanted a dirt bike. He asked us if we could rent one for him to ride for a few hours as his birthday present, but we decided to spoil him with his own. He was speechless for a few minutes when he first saw it, and his eyes teared up. He never expected it, which made it even more fun to surprise him with one. I’m also very impressed with Skye and Beck because they have known about this for well over a month and kept the secret!

We finished off the day with a group of their friends coming over for games, ice cream (he’s no longer a cake person), and the BYU football game…

I didn’t take any pictures yesterday besides our pink pasta that my family adores for dinner.

This Week’s Running Thought–> Seek and Find The Run You Need

Every week brings something completely different (Andrew always says he never knows who he’s getting each week with me;)…busy schedules, tired legs, surprise motivation, or zero motivation. So instead of chasing a perfect run this week, give yourself the kind of run you personally need this week.

Maybe that’s a solo run with your favorite podcast.
Maybe it’s meeting a friend and going the entire run in a deep conversation.
Maybe it’s a short loop with no expectations.
Maybe it’s pushing yourself more than you normally do to see what happens.

There’s no wrong way to do it. Just don’t forget that running is allowed to feel good. It’s allowed to be your outlet, your therapy, your reset button. You’re allowed to switch things up and find a way to do it that fits YOUR needs this week…

Listen to what you need (mentally, socially, spiritually, physically) and let your runs support that (and forget the training plan a day or two if that is what you need).
