Running

Friday Favorites + I did it, even though I was scared.

(shorts, tank)

That first one back is terrifying. It’s been over 6 months since my last speed workout (I dropped out of St. George because of an injury), and I’ve procrastinated for quite some time to get back into speed. I decided this week was the week, and that I could trust myself that if it felt off during the workout, I would stop immediately. My friends were doing a 5′ 4′ 3′ 2′ 1′ workout, and I went for it with them. Everything felt 100% fine. I am thrilled. But I also want to be beyond smart because I never want to feel the way I did last October/November again. The post-speed workout high was stronger than ever after this one:

Twinner hair.

Skye asked for some blueberry muffins before run club, so I made these, and they tasted like cake🙂

They fueled her well for her team’s 400-meter relay workout.

My Friday workout was with my chicks in the garage on the Peloton. It’s always a bit shocking how quickly I lose my biking fitness when I’m not on it regularly. We moved the Peloton into the garage now… Next we might put it in the kitchen;)

Now for some favorites this week:

*My ER doctor brother sent me this study about the link between step count and depression. It’s an interesting read. I run for my mental health.

*I have always wanted to buy something from Boden because their pieces have so much personality and scream brightness and happiness. I bought this yellow short-sleeved sweater, and it’s my favorite top now. New customers get 10% off with code: V9AQ (warning: their clothing isn’t cheap, but the details and quality are amazing).

*These Levi denim shorts are my most-worn item in the spring and summer. They are the perfect length for me.

*The container saves us each and every soccer season to pack snacks with us.

*I am a carb lover through and through, but have been hitting 100-120 grams a day of protein since I got home from Europe, and I am starting to feel SO much better on my runs. I think I’ve been under-fueling my protein needs for how much I run… I could survive happily on carbs all day long. It’s amazing what simple additions can do for how you feel overall: I added 4 ounces of rotisserie chicken to my tomato soup, which was delicious. I can still eat what I love, I’m just adding protein to each meal and making sure my snacks have protein, too.

*I started taking these gummies after reading about how much women need creatine each day. This company sent me these (with no agreement to post) a few months ago, and I forgot about them (sorry!!) until last week. I am not kidding. My brain fog has burned off like the fog of San Francisco at noon. It could be the placebo effect, it could be a post-trip high, or it could just be helping me to focus and remember things. It took a few days to kick in, but I like it a lot so far. The flavor is great, the texture takes a second to get used to, and I love getting it in quick with gummies. I’m taking three a day.

*My summer shades this year (and if you have a big head like me, these will actually fit and not feel like your brain is being squeezed all day)!

*These cute little fridge picture magnets are making me happy each time I am in the kitchen.
