Running

Fall Break has rocked me + I think this is why we all do it.

I woke up at 8:30 am, thinking it was 5 am. My hair looked like I had been through a tornado, and I had mascara on my chin. Fall Break has really taken a toll on me.

And then when I ran out to my car to drive to meet Jo for a run, I realized that I had left the back of my car open all night in the driveway with some of my Costco groceries still in the back. Thank goodness, my car (or the veggie tray!!) wasn’t stolen!

The 4 miles @ 8:20 pace had me feeling like a normal human again. + some yoga!

I had no idea our house was so dirty, but my nephew had us working for another few hours.

Eventually, we had to get out of the house because we couldn’t clean anymore;)

For dinner, we had salmon that was very delicious from Costco.

The rolls didn’t survive —> probably because I left them outside overnight.

PS: I have a problem… I went with Dr. Pepper-colored nails this time.

Random running/life thought of the day: I was listening to a podcast yesterday that focused on our mental health, discussing reasons why the numbers for mental health struggles are increasing rather than decreasing, despite having more awareness/support/help than ever before.

One thing they talked about was how we, as humans, weren’t designed to have such a cushioned life (physically, our world is so much easier now than ever before). Our ancestors spent most of their days working hard to get food, and I drive to Costco once a week for a cart full. We were made for struggle, some suffering, and for physical work. I think this explains one of the reasons why so many of us love running even though it is so unbelievably hard most of the time. I think it helps us do what we were meant to do, especially since the rest of many of our days are filled with more sitting, resting, and driving than at any other time in the world. This helps to make sense of why we pay $$$ to enter the pain cave in a race or why we continue running day in and day out, only to suffer from things like blood blisters, injuries, chafing, and muscle soreness. We were made to work hard physically, and running helps us to do this. Just another reason why running is so incredibly helpful for our mental health.

Long story short IMO: The easier our modern life physically gets = the more and more people will sign up for races.

Have you ever found groceries in your car… way later than you should have? Please tell me I’m not alone.

What’s a smell that instantly brings you joy?

-Bed/rolls baking.

Do you think the ease of modern life is actually hurting our mental health in some ways?
