Tidbits… and things that went wrong.

Matching heart necklaces from an H&M in Paris.
*I took my back pillow on the plane and trains, and it saved me. Zero back pain. I expected it to be so bad after the flight, but it wasn’t. We will be economy for life is what Andrew says so this pillow will go everywhere with us;)

*The fruit in Europe is ridiculously better than the fruit we get in our area at home.

*The kids were in heaven.

*Believe me, Garmin. I KNOW.

*The number of belly laughs that occurred hit a new record.

*I had never heard of a Pizza Fritta until this trip. Call me simple, but this made it to the top 10 best things I’ve ever eaten list.

*My kids fell asleep everywhere.

Especially Skye. She is my copy-paste because I can do the same thing anywhere.

*I am thankful that our stroller came with a baguette holder;). We got the stroller off the classifieds right before we left, and I can’t say I recommend it, other than for the baguette holder.

*When you are so full, you must. lay. down.

*Mustard and mayonnaise should be sold in toothpaste looking tubes like this in the US, too!

*I didn’t post any of our gelato but we definitely ate it a few times while there…

*Is there much better than seeing your best friend’s kids become best friends with your own kids?

*The public transportation system was slightly different getting my kids around than my Yukon in Utah.

*We do not live in a busy city and so I loved seeing my kids learn how to flag down busses and figure out the stops while we were there.

*Snow and a sports bra is my favorite run temperature.

*The things Sarah told me I must get at the France Pharmacie for skin care:

*The eggs in Switzerland have little bar codes that allow you to see exactly where they came from and when they were laid.

*Knox said that the food is 75% of the joy of traveling and I might have to agree.

I’ve sufficiently shown you the highlights from our trip, so here are some of the mistakes that I made that I can think of (I’m sure there is more that I’ve forgotten as a means of preservation):

*I went into a men’s restroom in Switzerland and didn’t realize until I was leaving.
*My self-tanner exploded all over my backpack and I realized when I reached into my backpack at the train station and my hand came out completely orange.
*I somehow forgot that the littles will get mud all over their pants no matter where we are and did not pack nearly enough bottoms for Skye (I packed the girls and Andrew packed the boys) because wearing the same pants two days in a row is not an option for her. She loves the earth so much.
*We had a very close call when we could only find one restroom for one of our kids that required payment and we did not have the correct form of payment and everything near us was already closed.
*We should have taken public transportation in Paris, that would have saved us a lot of money.
*We should have reserved a place for Steak Frites in Paris because I am pretty devastated I didn’t try that there.
*Never ever buy those little snow globes for souvenirs. Beck and Skye shattered theirs minutes apart from each other.
*We wanted to save $15 (slight exaggeration) on our flight home and decided to do a connecting flight instead of direct from Paris to SLC. Our Paris flight was late, so we were sprinting through the Seattle airport when we landed and at the gate were told that our tickets were given to standby because we were there only 5 minutes before closing the gates. One of my kiddos started sobbing because they were so excited to see Beretta and had to wait longer. If it is me and Andrew, sure, we can save money on crazy flights, but with the kids, we just need to eat the costs and fly direct if possible. But it was also a good lesson on being flexible so maybe it was a win?

*I am very grateful that it was me that the jellyfish got and not one of the kids because it actually was kind of freaky… My arm started swelling up pretty crazy and the pain was unreal while having a 2 mile hike to get to any sort of store or phone service. We learned to pack antihistamines and a first aid kit with us for when we hike. At least, I remembered the candy.

*We only took one wrong train which I think is pretty good odds.

*The kids really did so good and I’m very proud of them for adventuring so hard. I think our next trip might need to include a bit more relaxation;)
