Tangents Galore! – The Hungry Runner Girl

8.5 miles @ 8:19 pace yesterday with 4 x 20-second strides thrown in at the end. With those strides, we accelerate over the 20 seconds to about 80-90% max speed. Strides are a great way to help improve our running form, efficiency, and to get muscles activated again, while adding a little speed without fatiguing ourselves or risking injury. Try adding a few in each week!
You better believe our new route is planned solely to go to the house that is fully decorated for Halloween, WITH candy already out. Our long runs will just go out and back from here for the next 6 weeks. PS, we are decorating our house this weekend. Our neighbors have been very concerned about why we have waited so long, but Andrew has been a bit busy.

I made this for dinner, which was an excellent decision on my part. I also made it before all of the sports practices because I’m sick of eating dinner at 8 pm and 4 pm dinner with cereal at 8 pm was way more fun.

Now for today’s tangents:
*In Hawaii, I jumped on the treadmill the last day we were there because it was pouring rain and I didn’t want to go back into our room and risk waking up the kids to get my hat (I refuse to go out for a run in the rain without a hat, I can take all of the pain that comes with running but not the annoyance of my eyeballs being pelted).
I played around with the speed on the treadmill because nothing makes a treadmill more fun than constantly switching the speed or incline around and landed at 6:40 for a few minutes… It was so hard. I remembered that this used to be my marathon pace and wondered how my body ever did such a thing for 26.2 miles. If you don’t use it, you lose it. I’m determined to get a marathon back here again:

*I just finished this one (again) and loved this line so very much-> “You’re not alone, and you’re not the one in charge,” Mother said gently. “Ask for help when you need it, and give help when you can. I think that is how we serve God–and each other and ourselves–in times as dark as these.”

*Andrew and I went on a double to Bowls Superfoods. There is no better acai bowl on the planet than these ones.

*I made him chicken nuggets (yes, it was for breakfast… please don’t judge, it’s all he wanted to eat with his pajama shirt on backwards and inside out), and when I came back into the kitchen, he had gotten the Nutella out to dip the nuggets into.

*What I would give for Skye’s upper body strength…

*She wants to be a hockey player for Halloween which makes my life a bit easier since we have everything we need for that;)

*The hat Knox bought from his blog post:). He wanted to make sure I showed you!

*Just a random life scene:

*Always bring slip-ons in your car to wear the second you finish a speed workout. My feet love me so much for doing this.

*If you could go for a hike anywhere in the world today, where would you go?

Can you run in the rain without a hat or visor?
Weirdest food combo that you or children in your life have eaten?
-The one I still cannot get over was when Skye was tiny and she dipped her donut into ketchup.
